NANBAN

SHIGEYOSHI MORIOKA

Shigeyoshi Morioka tea bowl

We introduce Shigeyoshi Morioka's NANBAN bowls.

His kiln is long one-chamber kiln, JA-GAMA(snake kiln).
NANBAN ware is fired in wood-firing long kiln with
reducting fire condition. Morioka used air-deliveried
clay from Japanese southern islands.

From his 9m long kiln he gets a thousand of pieces
at one firing. We are showing the ten bowls
which were seleclted one by one
from each firing during decades.
